July 26th (my due date) sadly came and passed and still no baby. Every day felt like a lifetime, because I was so ready for Rydelle to get here. I went to my last Dr. appointment on July 27th, and she went ahead and scheduled me to go to the hospital on Monday, August 1st for cervical ripening, which would prepare me to be induced the next morning with Pitocin. We headed to the hospital at 8:00 pm and got checked in and they began the cervical ripening. They told me we would begin the Pitocin around 7:00 am the next morning and to get some sleep. A couple of hours later, I began to feel some sharp pains in my stomach. They started to get worse, and realized that they were contractions. They started to get really bad and painful, and I decided to get the epidural. After that, I didn't feel a thing! After a little while my contractions were getting bigger, and at one point the baby's heart beat dropped significantly and about 4 nurses came running in, one with a shot to stop my contractions. We were so scared and I started to cry because I wasn't sure what was happening. After a few seconds the heart beat went back up to normal and everything was fine. The contraction I had was so big, that they think it stressed the baby which caused the heart beat to drop. Luckily everything was fine, and we tried to get some sleep. Well, Isaac fell asleep while I put in a movie to watch. I was way too anxious to get any sleep. About 5 minutes after we put the movie in, I felt something and called the nurse in to check. She wasn't going to check to see if I was dilated at first, but then decided she should. She told me that were not going to believe this, but I was dilated to a 10 and she could see the baby's head. I was shocked, because we thought we would have to wait until morning to be induced and then thought it would be hours from then! We were so excited that it was finally happening! We went ahead and started pushing. Unfortunately my Dr. was planning on being in the next day to deliver my baby, but since everything happened so fast, another Dr. was there to deliver. He was friendly and I felt just as comfortable having him deliver our baby, so it turned out okay. I started pushing and had her in 8 minutes. Rydelle Brooke Jones was born August 2, 2011 at 4:13 am- 7 lbs. 9 oz- 21" long.
It took her a little while to finally cry and I got to hold her. It was the most amazing thing. They took her to clean her up and weigh her, and noticed that her lips were looking a little blue. They decided to take her to the nursery to make sure she was alright. She ended up having really low oxygen levels and they had to hook her up to oxygen. She had to stay in the nursery for the first day and a half we were in the hospital. It was such a scary thing to not know exactly what was going on and if she would be alright. It was horrible to not be able to have our baby with us that first day. In the end, everything turned out fine, and they think she just swallowed some fluid while she was being delivered. We were so thankful and couldn't wait for her to stay in our room with us the next day. Giving birth was such an amazing thing and we love being parents and love our little girl! It is so much fun seeing her change day by day. :)
